12 December 2013 - 10:05:54Rapid Assessment is important to be conducted because many observation in the world shows that the existence of mining and other extractive industries often brought positive and negative impacts to the local community. The positive impacts including improvement in regional income from revenue sharing and investment, local labor access to employment, and business opportunities as company partner. Meanwhile, the negative impacts include environmental degradation, in-migration to project location along with eviction, and economic marginalization of indigenous people which are living near from the exploration area. In order to manage social impact of the operation, the company needs to engage the local communities and carefully manage its social investment program that suits the need of the company and the community. As the basis of preparing suitable social investment programs, a social baseline study and analysis is needed. This rapid assessment is a study of the social, economy, politic, and cultural aspects of communities living in Arguni Block which includes several villages in Babo, Aroba, Sumuri, Kuri, and Bomberay Districts. This study will provide an adequate, unbiased and reliable information as well as the related stakeholders that needs to be enganged by the company.
