Industry and mining sectors have received much attention from government because of their capacity to significantly boost economic growth. The presence of industries and their operation, especially oil and gas, certainly speed up economic growth. But, these industries have both negative and positive consequences. Undertaking comprehensive preparation before the operation starts is quite important for oil and gas companies. It is not just about the land preparation but also the social readiness of local communities living near the project. To prevent the negative social effects, a complete data about demographic, social, and economy is needed.  This is not only provides a general profile of communities but also shows how local communities can be involved within the project. The social mapping which is conducted by the Center in three villages in Samboja has several purposes, namely: 1) To identify and make social program profiles that have been implemented by various actors and companies, and already operated by program development digest model; 2) To map the issues and stakeholders such as government and local politics predicted to have influence, interest, and powers related to the company’s operation, especially in policy formulation related to the company’s activities which involve the communities; 3) To identify and make baseline data to develop socio, economic, and demography profiles, the program beneficiaries and prospective beneficiaries, also profile about social and economic infrastructure that existed; 4) To identify the needs, targets, and stakeholders of the prospective and programs.
