12 December 2013 - 10:05:54This research aimed to understanding the factors behind the development of the urban informal sector in the region. Survey was conducted in five districts consisting of 750 respondents which were randomly selected based on quota sampling. In addition in-depth interview and focus group discussion were also employed to deepen the information collected through survey. The findings showed that there are at least three factors playing an important role for the development of the urban informal sector: low quality of human resources, limited fund and lack of knowledge of the workers perceive that it does not have any relevance in helping the informal sector, but it does not work since they are not well informed to the workers.
