Theorising ‘Place’ in an Indonesian Context

Bagi sebagian besar penduduk Indonesia, mudik menjadi suatu kegiatan yang dilakukan ketika mereka sudah meninggalkan tempat kelahiran mereka. Setiap ada kesempatan, terutama saat Lebaran dan/atau Natal, banyak orang mudik ke kampong halamannya. Ternyata mudik tidak selalu hanya pulang ke rumah orang tua, menengok keluarga, tetapi juga tentang kembali ke ‘tempat’ yang mempunyai kenangan untuk tiap individu. Dalam tulisan ini juga diulas tentang kaum homoseksual yang memilih keluar dari desa menuju kota, tetapi pada saat-saat tertentu mereka tetap mengunjungi desanya itu. Konsep mudik juga bukan hanya milik orang Indonesia karena di Barat pun ada konsep yang sama tentang kembali ke tempat yang mempunyai kenangan tersendiri bagi orang tersebut.

Memahami Migrasi Pekerja Indonesia ke Luar Negeri

There are evidences of growing Indonesian labor migration flew overseas. This involves at least two important issues. The first one is the increase of undocumented (illegal) international migration from Indonesia, mostly to neighboring countries. Second, feminization of labor migration is also expected to grow to response consequences on both macro and micro level. Many of them have been well addressed in research, but still left some important issues, such as trafficking and children left behind. Several researches have been conducted in that two subjects, but still limited. In fact, they are very important in developing more sound policies to alleviate the negative impact of international labor migration.

Informal economy at long standing cannot be denied from thorough economic development in Indonesia. The informal sector has established since at the beginning of national development. Unideal structural transformation that was happened also becomes a triggering factor for mushrooming this sector. The existence of informal sector indeed has provided abundant employment opportunity. For most urban and rural job seekers, informal sector has become main job alternatives. This fact has globally emerging at macro economic development. Unsurprisingly, the economical prospect of this sector has enabled people to achieve better standard of living. Based on SUSENAS data, this article focuses on the dynamic of informal sector related to its prospect, progress over time, and position in economic development.

Women are a unique creature. In life they perform double function, as production and reproduction function. The number of women in Indonesia can be used as an important labor force; unfortunately they usually have lower level of education level. At the end, this forced them to go abroad and being TKW which not always a good thing to do. Most of them are abused by their employers. Even though some women do not work economicly, they still take care of their families which also an uneasy job to do. In the future, the empowerment of women could produce more quality generation.

Mendorong Program Kemiskinan dan Raskin Berbasis Lokal

In order to recover from the economy crisis, the government has launced a program namely raskin (beras miskin / rice for the poor). This program was addressed to only poor people with criteria set by BPS. Since this program has caused public jeaulousy, the criteria for the recepients of raskin then has changed so the term bagita / bagi rata / equally shared came up. All people, whether they were poor or not, then entitled to raskin in various amount every month. This paper will describe in detail the share of raskin and the changing in the criteria based on the research in Kulon Progo Regency and Cilacap Regency.

Kerentaan Penduduk Usia Lanjut di Jawa – Bali

Most elderly have lower education level; they work in agriculture sector with lower income so it is natural if they are categorized as vulnerable in meeting their basic needs. They are willing to work anything; they depend on the fund giving by their children and children in laws as long as they have income. This depency is higher on elderly women than men. When they get sick, they only go to puskesmas or pustu to find the cure. They spend most of their time watching television even most of the programs are not suitable to their needs. The government has done many programs in helping the vulnerable citizens, but still these elderly have not catched their attention yet.

Perilaku Merokok dan Pengalaman Regulasi di Berbagai Negara

This paper elaborates smoking behavior and its implication to health as well as household welfare. The controversy of this behavior and its implication is explored: cigarette is demanding goods for many people, particularly men; cigarette industries also contribute a lot to job oppurtunities, household income, and government revenues, but the health consequences of smoking behavior exceed the benefits. In addition, most smokers in this country spend their limited income more for tobacco than for education and health, and hence affects negatively to their welfare. This paper then explores state regulations applied in many parts of the world since 16th centuries, and efforts to regulate smoking behavior in Indonesia, and their effectiveness to protect people from smoke hazards.

Petunjuk Bagi Penulis

Redaksi menerima kiriman artikel dengan ketentuan sebagai berikut:

1. Artikel belum pernah dipublikasikan oleh media cetak lainnya.

2. Artikel dapat berupa hasil penelitian (lapangan, laboratorium, kepustakaan), gagasan konseptual kajian, dan aplikasi teori, serta ulasan buku.

3. Naskah ditulis dalam bahasa Indonesia atau bahasa Inggris, diketik spasi 1,5 pada kertas ukuran kuarto atau A4, jumlah halaman antara 25 sampai dengan 30 halaman, termasuk daftar pustaka, tabel, dan gambar/peta.

4. Artikel ditulis dalam bentuk esai dan berisi:

  • Abstrak (50-75 kata) dengan bahasa yang tidak sama dengan bahasa artikelnya,
  • kata-kata kunci (2-4 kata),
  • identitas penulis (CV ringkas),
  • pengantar/pendahuluan (tanpa sub-bab) memuat latar belakang masalah, sedikit tinjauan pustaka, masalah atau tujuan, dan kerangka pemikiran teoritis. Pembahasan disajikan dalam sub-bab-sub-bab,
  • kesimpulan/penutup,
  • daftar rujukan / pustaka yang diacu harus pakai dan masuk dalam artikel.

5. Daftar pustaka ditulis dengan tata cara mengurutkan secara alfabetis dan kronologis, sebagai berikut:
